ALIEN PLANET

I hope I don't burst everyone's bubble with their overflowing excitement for the rarest of rarities in Louisiana. SNOW. I remember winter storm 93' where my brother and I had days if not weeks off from school and we built a trench under the trampoline and played and pretended until we were literally frozen. As I remember it was like a wonderful dream of white change to the never ending green that is Alabama. I don't know if it was my sick achy body and sore throat medicine malaise or what, but I didn't wake up to that feeling of excitement and newness. It felt like an alien planet and my house was cold because the power was off. I read books, and huddled close to my gas fireplace all day and slept when the medicine made me groggy. I woke up later to look out the window at the still alien, disorienting whiteness that was my neighborhood. I don't know, maybe it's just cooler when you are a kid. Maybe I'm just a negative nancy. Or maybe the cold medicine and body aches were making me grumpy. Any way, I want things back to normal. I want to go to work tomorrow and I want to see the greenery. So....blphhh (that's the sound when kids stick their tongue out).
